Standardised Mortality Ratio in 1901 for Poor Law Union/Reg. District
The actual number of deaths as a percentage of the expected number, computed from mortality rates for Great Britain for the relevant year, and the age- and sex-composition of the local population as reported by the Census. This is probably the best overall measure of how healthy localities were relative to the country as a whole.
