Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Hatton Castle

Hatton Castle, a ruined fortalice in Newtyle parish, SW Forfarshire, at the western base of Hatton Hill (870 feet), ¼ mile SE of the village. Built in 1575 by Lawrence, fourth Lord Oliphant, it commanded the Sidlaw pass of the Glack, down which it looks to an extensive prospect of Strathmore.—Ord. Sur., sh. 48, 1868.
