Kirkforthar House, an old mansion on the Balbirnie estate, in Markinch parish, Fife, 3 miles N of Markinch village. Near it are the hamlet of Kirkforthar Feus and -the graveyard of the ancient chapelry of Kirkforthar, which chapelry, forming the north-eastern section of Markinch- parish, had a separate status till the beginning of the 17th century, and has bequeathed to places in and near it the names of Kirkforthar Wood and Hilton of Kirkforthar.—Ord.
