Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Ormiston

Ormiston, a mansion in Kirknewton parish, Edinburghshire, 5 furlongs WSW of Midcalder Junction. Scottish Baronial in style, it was built in 1851 from designs by the late David Bryce, R.S.A. Its owner, William Wilkie, Esq., Capt. 3d Battalion Royal Scots (b. 1857; suc. 1883), holds 2000 acres in Edinburgh and Linlithgow shires, his grandfather having purchased the estate at the beginning of the century.—Ord.
