Ancrum, par. and vil., N. Roxburghshire, on Ale water, 3½ miles NW. of Jedburgh, 10,295 ac. (93½ water), pop. 1360; vil., pop. 430; P.O. In vicinity are Ancrum House and Ancrum Moor, scene of battle in which the English were defeated by the Scots in 1545.
