Bowness, small town, Undermilbeck township, Westmorland, on E. side of Lake Windermere, 1½ mile S. of Windermere sta. and 8 NW. of Kendal; pop. 1855; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks, 1 newspaper; has a good quay and pier, and excellent hotel accommodation, and is a centre for tourists visiting the lakes. The church is a very ancient structure, and has been carefully restored.
