Cromer.-- small town and coast par. with ry. sta., N. Norfolk, 20 miles N. of Norwich and 137 miles NE. of London, 1001 ac., pop. 1597; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has a splendid beach of firm sands, and is much frequented in the bathing season. Fishing is prosecuted, and a small coasting trade is carried on -- coals, timber, tiles, oil-cake, and other goods being exported; but the encroachments of the sea, by forming shoals, render the bay so dangerous to navigation that it is called the "Devil's Throat." Near the cliff is a lighthouse, with revolving light 274 ft. above high water and seen 23 m.
