Holywood, par. and vil. with ry. sta., W. Dumfriesshire - par., 8805 ac., pop. 1078; vil., 1 mile S. of sta. (3½ miles NW. of Dumfries); P.O.; the abbey (founded 12th century, demolished 1779) stood in the SE. corner of the churchyard; a little W. is an ancient stone circle called "The Twelve Apostles".
