Kincardine, the name of the former county town of Kincardineshire: it stood in Fordonn par., 4½ miles NW. of Laurencekirk and 2 miles NE. of Fettercairn; nothing now remains but the burying-ground of its ancient church (St Catherine's), and some vestiges of its royal palace, a residence of William the Lion, of Alexander III., and of Robert II.
