Liberton, par. and vil., Edinburghshire - par. (containing part of the burgh and suburbs of Edinburgh), 6617 ac., pop. 6026; vil., 2½ miles SE. of centre of Edinburgh; P.O., T.O.; the parish church is on the site of a very ancient church, mentioned in the foundation charter of Holyrood (1128); an hospital anciently stood at Liberton, which is said to be "Lepertown".
