Lismore, island and quoad sacra par., Lismore and Appin par., Argyllshire - par. (comprising Lismore and other islands in Loch Linnhe), pop. 2182; island (9½ miles long and 1¼ mile broad), pop. 621; P.O. Lismore was early the seat of a Columban monastery; in the 13th century it became the seat of the bishopric of Lismore or Argyll; of the cathedral little remains but the choir, which, as roofed in 1749, now serves as the parish church (9½ miles N. of Oban). Lismore Lighthouse, on Mousedale island (off SW. point of Lismore island), is 86 ft. high, with fixed light 103 ft. above high water and seen 16 miles.
