Rokeby, par., North-Riding Yorkshire, at the junction of the Greta and the Tees, 2½ miles S.E. of Barnard Castle, 1160 ac., pop. 196; is the scene of Sir Walter Scott's poem of Rokeby; the property belonged to the family of Rokeby from the Conquest to the Civil War, and gave them the title of baron; Rokeby Hull, seat, occupies the site of the ancient mansion-house, burned down by the Scots in 1314.
