Lancashire, on W. side of river Irwell - township, in Manchester par., 1329 ac., pop. 101,584; bor., partly also in Eccles par., 5170 ac., pop. 176,235; 4 Banks, 2 newspapers. Salford returns 3 members to parl. (3 divisions - viz., North, West, and South - 1 member for each division); its representation was increased from 2 to 3 members in 1885. See MANCHESTER.
