Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Slains

Slains, coast par., Aberdeenshire, 9124 ac., pop. 1256; the church stands near Collision vil., 6 miles E. of Ellon. The ruin of Slains Castle, ancient stronghold of the earls of Erroll, demolished in 1594 by James VI., crowns a lofty peninsulated rock on the coast.
