Slough, market town with ry. sta., Upton cum Chalvey and Stoke Poges pars., Bucks, 2m. NE. of Windsor and 18½ W. of London by rail, 401 ac., pop. 5095; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Tuesday. Slough is considered to be a very healthy place, and has grown rapidly since the beginning of the railway period, when it was a mere village. At Slough Sir William Herschel, the astronomer, erected his large telescope, and made most of his discoveries.
