Sutton Coldfield, market town and par. with ry. sta., Warwickshire, 7 miles NE. of Birmingham - par. (containing Boldmere), 1303 ac., pop. 7737; town, pop. 3301; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Monday. Sutton Goldfield is a town of great antiquity, and was a borough by prescription, incorporated by charter from Henry VIII. The church, enlarged and ornamented in the reign of Henry VII., is a handsome structure; there are also a town-hall, a market-house, and an endowed free school. The mfr. of hardware goods forms the principal industry, and there is trade in agricultural produce. Sutton Chase is a public park of 3500 ac.
