Tarporley, market town, par., and township (ry. sta. Beeston Castle and Tarporley, 2 miles S.), Cheshire, 10 miles SE. of Chester - township, 1144 ac., pop. 1350; town and par., 6194 ac., pop. 2669; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Thursday. Tarporley is an ancient place, whose inhabitants are chiefly employed in the mfr. of stockings and leather breeches. It is the headquarters of the Cheshire Hunt. A battle, in which the Royalists were victorious, was fought here in 1642.
