Weston-super-Mare, seaport town, watering-place, and par. with ry. sta., Somerset, on Bristol Channel, at mouth of river Severn, 18½ miles SW. of Bristol, 1590 ac. land and 1180 water, pop. 12,884; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks, 2 newspapers. Weston-super-Mare, so late as 1810, was a small fishing village; it is now a popular and increasing seaside resort, with a fine esplanade, pier, and landing stage. Its chief recommendations are its healthy bracing climate and its beautiful environs.
