Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Southam

Southam, market town and par., Warwickshire, 3 miles NE. of Southam Road sta. and 9 miles SE. of Warwick, 2770 ac., pop. 1784; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Monday. Southam was known at Domesday as Sucham. The town occupies a pleasant situation amidst picturesquely wooded scenery, and possesses an ancient church with fine spire, an endowed national school, an infirmary for diseases of the eye and ear, and a mineral spring similar to the springs at Leamington. On the first Monday of every month fairs are held, and there are 2 statute fairs in October.
