Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Burghley House

Burghley House, seat of the Marquis of Exeter, on river Welland, near Stamford, N. Northamptonshire. A part of this magnificent mansion, which is situated in a noble park, was built in the reign of Elizabeth by Lord Treasurer Burleigh (1520-1598).
