Galway, on river Clare, 27 miles NE. of Galway and 129½ miles NW. of Dublin - par., 25,014 ac., pop. 7845; township, 604 ac., pop. 3567; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks, 2 newspapers. Market-days, Wednesday and Saturday. The diocese of Tuam is among the largest in Ireland; the new cathedral was opened in 1878. The R.C. cathedral is of elaborate architecture; and there is an interesting ancient cross.
