Marple, town and township with ry. sta., Stockport par., Cheshire, on river Goyt and Peak Forest and Macclesfield Canal, on border of co., 4 miles ESE. of Stockport and 9 miles SE. of Manchester by rail, 3053 ac., pop. 4421; P.O., T.O., and P.O. at Marple Bridge; 1 Bank; has cottonworks; John Bradshaw (1602-1659), who presided at the trial of Charles I., was a native; in vicinity of town is Marple Hall, seat.
