Porthcawl, coast vil. with ry. sta., Newton Nottage par., Glamorgan, at terminus of ry., 6 miles by road and 9 by rail SW. of Bridgend; P.O., T.O. The principal industry consists in the export of coal, and of iron from the Maesteg works. Floating docks to the extent of 7½ ac. have recently been opened, and other facilities for shipping have been introduced. Porthcawl has become a popular bathing-place.
