Welland, river; rises on NW. border of Northamptonshire, and flows NE. along borders of Leicestershire and Rutland and through SE. of Lincolnshire to the Wash; it is 70 miles long, has basin area of 760 square miles, and is navigable for small craft up to Market Deeping.
