Hallamshire, ancient lordship, in S. div. West-Riding Yorkshire; mentioned in Domesday Book as Hallam. It is now difficult to determine the boundaries, but the supposition is that the extent of the lordship is represented by the parishes of Sheffield and Ecclesfield.
