Lochgelly, town and quoad sacra par. with ry. sta., partly in Ballingry par., but chiefly in Auchterderran par., Fife, ½ mile NW. of Loch Gelly, and 7½ miles NE. of Dunfermline - par., pop. 3190; town, pop. 2601; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; Lochgelly is a police burgh, and owes its prosperity to its collieries and ironworks; between the town and the loch is Lochgelly House, seat of the Earl of Miato.
