Erwash, river and canal, on border of Derbyshire and Notts; the river rises near Kirkby-in-Ashfield, and flows 15 miles S. to the Trent near Attenborough; the canal branches off from Cromford Canal near Langley Bridge, and runs close beside the river to the Trent, opposite the river Soar; is 11¾ m. long, and has 13 locks; a branch goes off to Nutbrook, 4 m. long, with 13 locks.
