KIRBY-UNDER-DALE, a village and a parish in Pocklington district, E. R. Yorkshire. The village stands near a rapid declivity of the Wolds, 5¾ miles NE of Fangfoss r. station, and 7 N by W of Pocklington; and has a post office under York. The parish contains also the hamlets of Garrowby, Uncleby, Painsthorpe, and Hanging-Grimston. Acres, 5, 049. Real property, £4, 581. Pop., 333. Houses, 53. The manor, with most of the property, belongs to the Right Hon. Sir Charles Wood, Bart. Several hills diversify the surface; and one of them, flanking the plain of York, has an altitude of about 800 feet above sea level. The living is a rectory in the diocese of York. Value, £867.* Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church was restored in 1828, and has a tower. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
