GORING, a village and a parish in Worthing district, Sussex. The village stands on the coast, adjacent to the South Coast railway, 2 miles W of Worthing; and has a station on the railway, and a post office under Worthing. Castle-Goring was long the residence of the Shelleys, from whom sprang the poet Shelley; and passed to Sir G. B. Pechell, Bart. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester. Value, £146.
