Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for CROSS-IN-HAND

CROSS-IN-HAND, a place in the south-east of Sussex; 3½ miles SSW of Mayfield, and 5½ E by N of Uckfield r. station; on the summit of a ridge, commanding an extensive and magnificent view. It has a post office under Hurst-Green, a small inn, and a small church; and fairs are held at it on 22 June and 19 Nov. The church was built in 1863; is in the early English style; and has a bell turret, and an octagonal shingled spire.
