COCKERMOUTH AND WORKINGTON RAILWAY, a railway in Cumberland; westward, down the left bank of the river Derwent, from Cockermouth to Workington. It is 8½ miles long; and makes a junction, at Workington, with the Whitehaven railway. It was authorized in 1845, and completed in 1847. About three-fourths of its traffic are in coal.
