APLEY PARK, the seat of the Whitmore family, on the river Severn, 3 miles N of Bridgnorth, Salop. The grounds are richly picturesque, in both natural and artificial feature; and a terrace, about a mile long, commands a superb panoramic view to the Clents, the Malverns, Clee, wenlock Edge, and the Wrekin.
(John Marius Wilson, Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales (1870-72))
