ANTON (The), a river of Hants. It rises among the chalk hills in the neighbourhood of Penton-Mewsey; runs 7 miles south-eastward, past Andover, to a junction with the Test in the vicinity of Wherwell; and goes thence 17 miles southward, past Stockbridge and Rom sey, to the head of Southampton water.
