Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for STAMFORD AND ESSENDINE RAILWAY

STAMFORD AND ESSENDINE RAILWAY, two short lines of railway, near the mutual boundaries of Lincoln, Rutland, and Northampton; the one 3⅜ miles long, from Stamford to Essendine, authorized in 1853 and opened in 1857; the other 6 miles long to a junction with the Northampton and Peterborough, authorized in 1864, and opened in 1867.
