SHREWSBURY AND CREWE RAILWAY, a railway in Salop and Cheshire; from Shrewsbury north-north-eastward, past Wem, Whitchurch, and Nantwich, into junction with the Northwestern at Crewe. It is 33 miles long; was authorized in 1852, in powers to the Manchester and Birmingham; was opened in 1858; and now forms part of the Northwestern system.
