RAMSGILL, a village and a chapelry in Kirkby-Malzeard parish, W. R. Yorkshire. The village stands on the river Nidd, 5 miles N W by N of Pateley-Bridge r.station; was the birth-place of Eugene Aram; and is picturesque. The chapelry was constituted in 1844; and its post town is Pateley-Bridge, under Leeds. Pop., 523. Houses, 106. Gowthwaite Hall is a chief residence. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Ripon. Value, £140.* Patron, the Vicar of Masham. The church was built in 1842, is in the pointed style, and has a tower.
