Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Castle-Stewart

Castle-Stewart, a ruined ivy-clad square tower in Penninghame parish, E Wigtownshire, near the right bank of the Cree, 3 miles N N W of Newton-Stewart. It was built by Col. William Stewart, a soldier of fortune, in the 17th century.
