ORMATHWAITE, a seat in Crossthwaite parish, Cumberland; 1½ mile N N E of Keswick. It was the residence of the philosopher Dr. Brownrigg, and afterwards of Capt. Dover; is now the seat of Mrs. Wake; stands amid nobly-wooded grounds; commands a splendid view of Derwentwater; and is itself a fine feature in the view from the S W of Skiddaw.
