OGMORE VALLEY railway, a small railway system in Glamorgan; comprising a main line, or the Ogmore Valley proper, conjoint works with the Llynvi Valley, arrangements with the Ely Valley, and an amalgamation of the Ely Valley Extension. The Ogmore Valley proper comprises a line from the Llynvi Valley to Nant-y-Moel, and a branch, aggregately 9 miles long; was authorized in 1863, on a capital of £90,000 in shares, and £30,000 in loans; and was opened in Aug., 1865. The joint works with the Llynvi Valley comprise a line½ a mile long, improvements in Porthcawl harbour, and other works; and were authorized in 1864 on a capital, to each of the two companies, of £30,000 in .shares, and £10,000 in loans. The Ely Valley comprises a line from the South Wales at Llantrissant to Penrhiwfer, with branchesto Glanmychydd and Mynydd-Gellyrhaidd, aggregately8½ miles long, and authorized in 1857 on a capital of £70,000 in shares and £23,000 in loans; comprises alsoa branch to Mwyndy, 2 miles long, authorized in 1858, on a new capital of £13,000 in shares and £4, 300 in loans; and was leased for 999 years to the Great Westernin 1862. The Ely Valley Extension comprises a line 1½mile long, from the W terminus of the Gellyrhaidd branch of the Ely Valley to Pelfachgoch; was authorized in 1863, on a capital of £12,000 in shares, and £4,000 in loans; and was amalgamated with the Ogmore Valley in 1865.
