NORMANTON-UPON-TRENT, a village and a parish in East Retford district, Notts. The village stands 1 mile E of the Great Northern railway, 1½ W of the river Trent, 3 N of Carlton r. station, and 3¾ S E by E of Tuxford; and has a post-office under Newark. The parish comprises 1, 110 acres. Real property, £2, 658. Pop., 402. Houses, 100. The property is much subdivided. The manor belongs to the Right Hon. J. E. Denison. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln. Value, £200. Patron, the Rev. R. Gamson. The church consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with a tower; and was restored in 1859. There are a Wesleyan chapel, six alms-houses, and charities, inclusive of the alms-houses, £100.
