In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Shearsby like this:
SHEARSBY, a chapelry, with a village, in Knaptoft parish, Leicester; 4 miles S S W of Glen r. station, and 6¾ N E of Lutterworth. It has a post-office under Rug-by, an inn, and a mineral spring. Real property, £2, 411. Pop., 306. Houses, 73. The living is annexed to Knap-toft. The church is good, and serves for the entire parish.
