In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Buckden like this:
BUCKDEN, a township in Arncliffe parish, W. R. Yorkshire; on the river Wharfe, 11½ miles NE of Settle. It includes the hamlets of Craye, Deepdale, Yockenthwaite, Beggarmonds, and Hubberholme; and has a post office under Skipton, and a Wesleyan chapel. Acres, 13,224. Real property, £5,039. Pop., 335.
