In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Sedgehill like this:

SEDGHILL, a parish in Mere district, Wilts; 1½ mile N N W of Semley r. station, and 4¼ S W of Hindon. Post-town, Semley, under Salisbury. Acres, 1, 175. Rated property, £1, 847. Pop., 194. Houses, 38. Most of the property belongs to the Marquis of Westminster. The living is a p. curacy, annexed to Berwick, St. Leonard, in the diocese of Salisbury. The church is good; and there is a parochial school.
