In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Purston Jaglin like this:
PURSTON-JAGLIN, a township in Featherstone parish, W. R. Yorkshire; on the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway, 2 miles N W of Pontefract. Acres, 984. Real property, £5, 570; of which £550 are in mines. Pop., 263. Houses, 68. P. Lodge is the seat of the Rev. T. H. Hall.
