In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Utterby like this:
UTTERBY, a parish, with a village, in Louth district, Lincoln; 2 miles S of Ludborough r. station, and 4¼ N by W of Louth. It has a post-office under Louth. Acres, 1,564. Real property, £2,895. Pop., 326. Houses, 76. The property is divided chiefly among four. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln. Value, £200.* Patron, the Rev. T. E. Norris. The church is later English and good. There are two Methodist chapels.
