RATHMELL, a township, with a village, in Gigggleswick parish, and a chapelry partly also in Long Preston parish, W. R. Yorkshire. The township lies on the river Ribble, 2¼ miles S of Settle r. station. Acres, 3, 382. Real property, £2, 990. Pop., 304. Houses, 55. The property is divided chiefly among three. ...
The chapelry was constituted in 1844; and its post town is Settle. Pop., 342. Houses, 63. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Ripon. Value, £101.* Patron, the Bishop of Ripon. The church is modern, in the pointedstyle; and has a low tower. There are a Wesleyan chapel and an endowed school.
