In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Seaton Ross like this:
SEATON-ROSS, a parish, with a village, in Pocklington district, E. R. Yorkshire; 2 miles N N W of Holme r.station, and 6 W of Market-Weighton. It has a post-office under York. Acres, 3, 380. Real property, £3, 633. Pop., 549. Houses, 114. The property is divided among a few. Bricks are made. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York. Value, £93. Patron, W.Maxwell, Esq. The church is tolerable; and there are chapels for Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists.
