In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Skeffling like this:
SKEFFLING, a parish, with a village, in Patrington district, E. R. Yorkshire; on the Humber, 4½ miles SE of Patrington r. station. Post town, Patrington, under Hull. Acres, 4,652; of which 3,072 are water. Real property, £2,466. Pop., 205. Houses, 41. The property is subdivided. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of York. Value, £53. Patron, the Rev. H. T. Holme. The church is ancient. There are a Wesleyan chapel, and charities £8.
