In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Urquhart like this:
Urquhart and Glenmoriston, par., Inverness-shire, on Loch Ness, 122,705 ac., pop. 2438; the ruins of Urquhart Castle stand on W. side of Loch Ness, 13 miles SW. of Inverness.
