In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Stronsay like this:
Stronsay, island, Stronsay and Eday par., Orkney, 12 miles NE. of Kirkwall, pop. 1274; P.O., T.O.; measures 4½ by 7¼ miles, and is of moderate elevation.
